Heartworm disease is passed through the bite of an infected mosquito.  Although only humans with catastrophic immune system failure can contract Heartworm disease, the parasitic worm can damage the organs or kill your Dog or Cat.  

 

Symptoms of Heartworm Disease

  • Persistent cough
  • Fatigue
  • Labored Breathing
  • Anorexia
  • Weight Loss
  • Swollen Belly (due to heart failure)

Testing & Treatment for Heartworm Disease

 

 

 

 

  • Bite from infected mosquito
  • Infects dog/cat with worm eggs
  • Larvae Migrate to the heart
  • Worms live in the heart
  • Mosquito bites infected dog.

Although Testing and Treatment of Heartworm is available the best course of action is to Prevent it.
Your pet should be tested for Heartworm then placed on a prescribed preventative medication.
